Apocalyptic Literature
(Revelation 1:1-20) Many of us were taught to read the Book of Revelation as a frightening, detailed timetable of future events. But what if it isn't a complex puzzle to solve, but a pastoral letter written to strengthen exhausted Christians? Today, Gavin kicks off our new series, exploring the book of Revelation. In it we will see how apocalyptic literature uses vivid symbols not to satisfy our curiosity about the future, but to build our endurance in the present, and just maybe be encouraged ourselves.

This series introduces the church to the apocalyptic imagination of Revelation. Beginning with an orientation to the nature of apocalyptic literature, the messages then walk through the letters to the churches, the throne and the Lamb, spiritual conflict and the beast, the victorious Saviour, and the New Jerusalem. The emphasis is on hope, worship, and perseverance - not fear. The goal is to see Revelation as a pastoral letter for TODAY inviting us to faithful endurance and a renewed vision of Christ’s ultimate victory.
