Making a Choice (Claudia Riley)

In this time of fear and uncertainty, social distancing and isolation, as we watch the figures of infection with Coronavirus skyrocket and the death toll rise worldwide, seemingly without an end in sight, I am making a choice:

  • A choice to turn my eyes upon Jesus; instead of allowing worry to consume me.
  • A choice to trust the Saviour of the world, MY Saviour; instead of allowing anxiety to cause me to panic.
  • A choice to surrender these circumstances to the one who reigns on high, and rest in his peace.
  • A choice to surrender my life, and accept whatever comes my way, for I believe that “in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

This choice is by no means an easy one. It requires effort. But it is the only effort worth making in a time such as this. No one is immune to this virus. It is no respecter of class, or race, or power, or wealth. And it is a killer.

But we have a hope that is stronger than this virus, and it will outlast this virus. This virus will pass, but God’s kingdom is eternal. His reign is forever. That is why I can choose hope over horror at what is sweeping across our world.

That is why I choose peace over panic.
